2012 City Elections

Paxton City elections will coincide with the Primary elections on August 14, 2012 at the Paxton Agriculture building 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.  This year Paxton has two (2) council seats up for election with the candidates being (Mayor seat was also up for election this year: Mayor Hayward Thomas is unopposed):

 Jenice Armstrong

William “Bill” McRae

Please remember to vote for TWO (2)candidates on your ballot.

Early voting will be held at Paxton Town Hall starting Saturday, August 4, 2012 and going through Saturday, August 11, 2012, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

 QUALIFYING DATES:  JUNE 4, 2012 – JUNE 8, 2012 @ 12:00 NOON (CST)

QUALIFYING PACKETS CAN BE OBTAINED AT THE CLERKS OFFICE IN PAXTON TOWN   HALL, 21872   U.S. HWY 331 N, LAUREL HILL, FL 32567, MONDAY – FRIDAY 7:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M.

NO PACKET CAN BE ACCEPTED AFTER 12:00 NOON (CST) ON JUNE 8, 2012.

All qualifications and elections for the offices of City councilmember and mayor shall be conducted on a nonpartisan basis without regard for or designation of political party affiliation of any nominee or any nomination petition or ballot.

QUALIFICATIONS ARE TO INCLUDE:

  1. MUST BE A REGISTERD WALTON COUNTY VOTER
  2. Candidate for the offices of City Councilmember and Mayor shall qualify for such office by the filing of a written notice of candidacy with the designated city official at such time and in such manner as may be prescribed by ordinance.
  3. MAYOR:  Must have resided in the City for at least three (3) years prior to the date on which qualified to run for the office of Mayor.

COUNCILMEMBER:  Must have resided in the City for at least (1) year prior to the date on which qualified to run for the office of City Council.

D.  Candidate must complete Statement of Financial Interests.

E.   Candidate must complete Candidate Oath – Nonpartisan Office.

F.   $5.00 qualifying fee must be paid when completed documents are turned into Paxton City Clerk.

Walton Co. Health Dept. hosting HEALTH FAIR

PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK IS APRIL 2 – 6, 2012

To celebrate Public Health Week, Walton County Health Department is providing FREE information and health screenings.  Employees from Walton County Health Department will be set up at the Paxton Agriculture building (10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) to provided the citizens of North Walton County with health information and screenings.

Spring Clean Up

 Dumpsters will be located behind thePaxtonAirportBuilding(on Highway 147 W)

  • Dumpsters will be marked for acceptable items (i.e.: household furniture, “white goods” (metal), etc.)

 ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED INCLUDE BATTERIES, TIRES, MOTOR OIL, CHEMICALS, PAINT & HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE

 SPRING CLEAN UP IS FOR WALTON COUNTY RESIDENTS ONLY.  Attendant will be on site to check identification and items before putting in the dumpsters.

Paxton Town Council will hold their regular scheduled monthly meeting Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in the meeting room of the Paxton Town Hall.  Meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m.

Holiday Closings

**CHRISTMAS**Paxton Town Hall will be closed Friday, December 23, 2011 and Monday, December 26, 2011 in observance of the Christmas holidays.  We will reopen on Tuesday, December 27th at 7:30 a.m.

**NEW YEAR’S **Paxton Town Hall will be closed on Friday, December 30, 2011 and Monday, January 2, 2012 in observance of the New Year holidays.  We will reopen on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 7:30 a.m.

For your convenience utility payments can be left in the drop box on the department door (main door always open).  If you would like to have a receipt mailed to you please just indicate your wishes on the envelope.  Thank you!

Florida League of Cities to Honor Chairman Bobby Kemp

On Tuesday, November 15, 2011 during the regular monthly City Council meeting Officials from the Florida League of Cities will honor Chairman Bobby Kemp for serving 40 years on Paxton’s City Council.  The meeting location has been changed to the Paxton Agriculture building to accommodate those attending the meeting.  Meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. (CST).    (Refreshments to follow the meeting)
